Giroud Shares His Thoughts After Re-Upping with Milan

Olivier Giroud penned his long-gestating extension with Milan the day after they eliminated Napoli 2-1 on aggregate in Champions League. The Frenchman added a year to his contract, which would have expired in June. He’ll earn €3.5M plus add-ons, Sky Italy informs.

The striker talked to the club’s TV after putting pen to paper (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“It’s the confirmation that I’m part of the Milan family. I was welcomed very well. I’ve liked a lot the project to make this team great since the first time I met the management. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far, but I want to do even more.”

“Coming here has been like a second youth for me. I’m highly motivated and determined. When I was a kid, Milan used to be The Team. I joined to do nice things and wish to carry on.”

Giroud weighed in on advancing to the Champions League semis.

“It’s a special emotion. This clash was pivotal for the Scudetto race last year. I wanted to play and contribute to advancing. I was eager to score after missing the PK. It was disappointing, but I never gave up, which is my mantra.”

Giroud is one of the only center-forwards who succeeded with the Rossoneri while wearing no.9.

“It’s just a number, and I like it. I don’t think I’ll be able to be the club’s top scorer at 36/37 years old, but the most important thing is to show up in key moments. The fans haven’t been a surprise to me. I was aware that the atmosphere at San Siro was very passionate. Their support is fantastic.”
