Immobile Breaks Serie A Record to Celebrate Birthday in Style

Ciro Immobile bagged an all-important quickfire brace to hand Lazio a 2-0 win over Salernitana at Stadio Arechi. While doing so, the Biancocelesti icon climbed the all-time Serie A top scorers chart past Fiorentina icon Kurt Hamrin into eighth position with 191 goals.

Immobile spoke to DAZN’s microphones following the significant win but directed the team’s goals to be top priority ahead of personal records.

“191 goals? These are important numbers that slowly increase. We hope to also reach the team goals other than personal ones.” (via Calciomercato)

His goals against Salernitana arrived in timely fashion, as the EURO 2020 winner celebrates his 33rd birthday today.

“It will be a nice birthday, I’m happy because both the team and I needed it. Today was difficult because they were motivated, but I have to thank the team that was close to me and everyone had a word of comfort. Sarri always says that we strikers are psychopaths because we live for moments, the goal for us is like oxygen and when the results don’t come, the sorrow is double.”

Four-time Capocannoniere winner Immobile has 191 goals in 309 Serie A appearances, with most of his strikes coming in the sky-blue colors of Lazio. The next on the list for him to beat are icons Roberto Baggio, Antonio Di Natale, and Giuseppe Meazza – at 208, 209 and 216 goals respectively.
