Inter Keeping Tabs on Monza Goalie for Possible Reunion

Michele Di Gregorio preserved the tie against Inter with multiple excellent saves before Luca Caldirola netted a late header, allowing Monza to claim all the three points. The goalkeeper is a product of the Nerazzurri’s youth academy. He cut his teeth in the lower leagues for a long time before reaching Serie A.

He was expected to lose his starting job to Alessio Cragno, whom the Brianzoli brought in from Cagliari. However, coaches Giovanni Stroppa and Raffaele Palladino stuck with him given his level of performance. The Biancorossi bought him out for €4M following the promotion.

Even though Di Gregorio is no longer under their control, Inter will consider orchestrating a reunion if a scenario comes to fruition, Calciomercato relays. They’ll have to collect money through sales next summer. While Denzel Dumfries is the primary candidate to bolt, his value has decreased. His departure might not be enough to satisfy their financial needs.

The sale of André Onana would net a large profit since he joined on a Bosman move. Chelsea, in particular, are eyeing him up. If a sizeable offer arrived, and their economic struggles forced them to, the Nerazzurri would be open to partying ways with the Cameroonian. At that point, they would target a cheaper option, likely from Serie A. The Monza starter, Guglielmo Vicario, and Marco Carnesecchi would top their shortlist.

Our Take on Di Gregorio and Inter

The shot-stopper has been remarkable this season and, as Ivan Provedel proves, it’s never too late to become elite in such a cerebral role. Chances are Onana will stay, and they will find different ways to make the numbers work, but he’d be a good replacement given his connection with the team.
