2006 FIFA World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro has urged boyhood club Napoli to make an offer for high-in-demand Argentine playmaker Paulo Dybala, who is inching closer to Inter each passing day. The 28-year-old forward was released by Juventus after both parties failed to reach an agreement regarding a contract extension, and the Nerazzurri have jumped at the opportunity to steal him away.
Cannavaro spoke to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport and gave a few words of advice to Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“If I were him, I would make a proposal to Dybala since he is available on a free. He made his choice and probably thought he would find a team more quickly. I repeat: if I were in Napoli I would think of Dybala. Do you know the enthusiasm he would bring forward?”
The Parma legend wishes the Argentine stayed in Serie A.
“I hope he will remain in Italy, where he grew up. He is the kind of a player who entertains, but the situation certainly is not simple.”
Dybala leaves the Bianconeri after seven years, where he registered an impressive record of 115 goals from 293 appearances. Other than the Nerazzurri, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the attacker’s signature.
