José Mourinho Makes It Clear That He Is Staying at Roma

José Mourinho was teary-eyed after Roma won European Conference League: “A lot is going through my mind right now. I have been here for 11 months, but I immediately understood where I was. We did our job against Torino last week and qualified for Europa League. Instead, the final was something completely different, and we made history.”

The gaffer announced his plans for the future talking to Sky Sport: “I will stay, and I want to as well despite some rumors. I desire to be successful here, and I do not care about any offer I might receive. We will have to see what are the ideas of the owners, who are very honest people. We can further this serious project, and we just have to define in which direction to go next season.”

Mourinho underlined the significance of the victory and professed his love for Roma: “This win will be etched in the history of the club and mine too. Only me, Alex Ferguson, and Giovanni Trapattoni have lifted three different European trophies. This makes me feel a little old. I feel to be 100 percent Romanista. That is my method. I always try to be part of a family that works towards a goal and sticks together in difficult times.”

Our Take on Mourinho’s Words

Despite the buzz from England, it always seemed a foregone conclusion that Mourinho would keep helming Roma, at least for another campaign. The more interesting parts are the hints about the future plans. The Special One not so subtly advised the club to spend more to do better in Serie A. It remains to be seen whether the Friedkin family will comply with that. Recent reports indicated that they might not be willing to splurge as much as last summer in the upcoming window.
