Juventus and Inter Enter the Race for Liverpool Star

Georginio Wijnaldum has been an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool since his arrival to the club in 2016, but the Dutchman’s contract will expire by the end of the season, and a host of clubs will be interested in his signature, including Juventus and Inter.

The former Newcastle United midfielder was expected to join Barcelona last summer – alongside his compatriot Memphis Depay – but a transfer between the two clubs never materialized.

Nonetheless, the Catalans remain eager on bolstering their struggling midfield with the signing of the 30-year-old in the upcoming transfer market, and perhaps reunite him with his former national team manager Ronald Koeman – if the latter remains in his post.

But according to Spanish newspaper AS (via Calciomercato.com), Barcelona won’t be alone in the race for Wijnaldum, as Serie A giants Juventus and Inter will try their luck as well.

The Bianconeri are renowned for their policy of attracting the biggest free agents available on the market, as they sealed the signings of Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Paul Pogba and even current manager Andrea Pirlo for free.

On the other hand, Giuseppe Marotta was arguably the architect behind most of the signings mentioned above, and is currently trying to deploy a similar policy within the Nerazzurri club.

For his part, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp would hate to lose his midfield enforcer for free, but the player seems to have set his mind on going for a new adventure.

Wijnaldum has made 25 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring two goals in the process.

The former PSV Eindhoven star had played a key role for Liverpool in the previous seasons, helping the Merseyside club to win the Champions League in 2019 and the EPL title last season.

Whilst the report claims that Juventus and Inter will try their luck for Wijnaldum, it should be noted that Barcelona remain the favorites.
