Iconic Bianconeri forward Alessandro Del Piero believes that of all the teams involved in the Scudetto race, arch-rivals Inter possess the greatest panache going forward into the business end of the season. The Nerazzurri experienced a rough patch in recent match weeks, but have returned to winning ways with consecutive victories against Juventus ad Hellas Verona.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia (via FCInter1908), the now pundit shed light on who he thinks have the best chance of winning the championship title. Del Piero marks Inter as favourites, especially after their upturn of form after a morale-boosting win at Liverpool, despite the Nerazzurri crashing out of the Champions League on aggregate.
“For what Inter have showed during the championship, they are the favorites. In the Champions League, Inter came out ‘well’, giving a good response with the victory at Liverpool,” he said.
The legendary forward then pointed out how ex-Roma striker Edin Dzeko has seamlessly fit into Simone Inzaghi’s style of play.
He commented: Dzeko has created a lot – goals and assists – and scored probably as much as Lukaku. It is no coincidence that the numbers describe the superiority of the Nerazzurri.”
Inter’s balance as a squad sets them apart among the three-way title race that is currently taking Italian football by storm, according to the 2006 World Cup winner.
“As a squad they are the most balanced of all, especially with the bench they have compared to other teams. They won last year and some players have already experienced some dynamics, so they know where to pick the right thing. This is the advantage in the season finale,” finished Del Piero.
Inter sit level with Napoli at 66 points, but lag two points behind league leaders Milan. Nonetheless, the Nerazzurri possess an extra game in hand.
