Juventus Star Midfielder Gunning for Starting Berth Against Lazio

Juventus ace Paul Pogba is reportedly eager to regain full fitness ahead of the Serie A return after picking up another injury scare against Empoli before the international break. According to Tuttojuve, the 30-year-old midfielder is desperate to make his first league start of the season when Massimiliano Allegri’s men take on Lazio next weekend.

Pogba rejoined Juventus after a controversial six-year stint at Manchester United last summer. However, he cannot forget his comeback year soon enough. A series of injury setbacks restricted the 2018 World Cup winner to only 108 minutes of top-flight action in 2022/23.

He has spent the whole summer recuperating from a hamstring injury that sidelined him toward the end of last season. But he isn’t fully fit yet. Allegri has handed him 52 minutes in Serie A his term, including a late cameo appearance in a 2-0 triumph at Empoli last time out.

The injury-prone playmaker thought he had scored his first goal for Juventus since returning to the club a year ago. Unfortunately, Dusan Vlahovic, who set him up with a nice layoff, was a fraction offside, leading VAR to disallow the Frenchman’s strike.

Unlike many of his Juventus teammates, Pogba has stayed in Turin during the international break. His recurring physical problems have forced his omission from France’s squad. Adrien Rabiot has taken his place in Didier Deschamps’ squad and excelled in a 2-0 win over Ireland on Thursday.
