Luis Alberto bagged his prettiest goal of the season to seal the deal in Lazio-Sampdoria. He and Maurizio Sarri have not always seen eye-to-eye, and he has offered mixed remarks about his future. Still, despite the rumors, he could be one of their building blocks, Corriere dello Sport informs.
The Spaniard clashed with the coach last summer, and he was not a full-time starter earlier on. He has turned things around as the season progressed. He is now up to usual numbers, as he has tallied five goals and ten assists. The gaffer weighed in on the ace in a recent presser: “He realized that, if I have something to say to him, I will tell him directly. It looked odd to him at first, but he is now aware of how I operate. He is a little peculiar but very intelligent.”
Lazio might reject any offer for Luis Alberto, especially because Sergej Milinkovic-Savic appears to be on his way out. Sarri would have easily traded the 29-year-old for a more manageable player in January, but things have changed: “I have a normal relationship with him. Any argument was physiological. The goal was extraordinary, a mix of technique and mental lucidity.”
Luis Alberto has gone back-and-forth on his Lazio future publicly. He stated during the previous window: “I have three years left on my contract. I will stay as long as they want me here.” Instead, he declared in February that he wished to return to Spain before being too old.
