Lazio Maintaining Contact with Sassuolo Forward

Lazio won’t give up their pursuit of long-serving Sassuolo stalwart Domenico Berardi despite facing stiff competition from Juventus. According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), the Biancocelesti are in constant contact with the winger’s entourage as they hope to broker his switch to the capital.

Maurizio Sarri has named Berardi his top attacking target for the summer. After claiming a place in next season’s Champions League, Lazio must add quality to keep their squad competitive ahead of a physically-demanding campaign. Who better than one of the best Serie A forwards to upgrade their options?

Berardi has been one of the best-performing wingers in Italy for years. But his phenomenal showings for Sassuolo haven’t gone unnoticed. Juventus are ready to launch a new assault on the 28-year-old following Angel Di Maria’s departure. That threatens to compromise the Italian’s potential move to Lazio.

What’s more, Claudio Lotito has no intention of matching Sassuolo’s €30 million asking price for their headline performer. The Lazio chief won’t go beyond €20m to close the deal. With both sides sticking to their guns, negotiations have reached a standstill.

If Lazio are to find a breakthrough in talks, they’ll need to lift their bid. But that seems unlikely unless they sell Sergej Milinkovic-Savic first. The Serb has a host of admirers in Serie A and abroad. Yet, he’s still waiting for his suitors to make a formal approach.
