Lazio Stopper Casale Pushes for European Finish Following Verona Draw

Lazio were held to a 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona after a second-half fightback prompted Cyril Ngonge to score a header on his debut to deny Pedro’s opening goal. Biancocelesti stopper Nicolo Casale returned back to his old playing ground – Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi –   but failed to keep his former side at bay.

Casale spoke to Lazio Style Channel following the spoils shared against Verona and explained his point of view.

“We are talking about the usual things. We lost many points from advantageous situations. I can’t understand what happens mentally in the second half, we go back thinking the game is easy. With teams like Verona you have to close it, especially playing away from home. With the home fans, it becomes even more difficult.” (via LaLazioSiamoNoi)

Casale then revealed that he expected a tough match against the Gialloblu, having spent the last campaign with them.

“Did I expect a game like this? Having played with them last year, which is the team I grew up with, I knew today would be a match like this. There was something missing in the last few meters to make it happen. If we want to stay in the top tiers of the standings, we need to make this leap here as soon as possible.”

He was then quizzed how it felt to return to Bentegodi after spending some important time at Verona.

“Return to Bentegodi? It is exciting, I was born and raised here. It was my first time as an opponent here; with many friends watching me. As a professional, I gave everything to win the game.”
