Leao Fully Committed to Milan Despite Long Negotiation

Rafael Leao claimed that, even though it took months to reach a complete agreement, he had decided to stay at Milan long before inking his extension until 2028 and that he never truly contemplated departing despite the reported interest in his services. The star spoke from the Portugal camp (via Goal).

“The choice had been made. I told the directors what I wanted. When I joined, the management supported me in an incredible fashion. I have never considered leaving or thought about any other club. I want to make history with the Rossoneri.”

Leao took stock of the season and dished on the hiring of Roberto Martinez.

“It was draining and full of matches but, when this time comes, the tiredness goes away and we are eager to represent our country in front of the fans. We want to qualify for the European Championship.”

“When I’m here, I don’t dwell on whether I’ll start or come off the bench. I just try to do my best and improve. I talked with the coach, and there’s mutual trust. We hit it off. When that happens, it’s easier on the pitch. The group has always been united also under Fernando Santos. In general, players feel freer to express their style now.”

Leao attended the Champions League final in Istanbul.

“I was speaking with Ruben Dias in the locker room, and then Bernando Silva came by. It was a shame that we didn’t reach it, but I was happy for them. They both help me a lot.”
