Milan will likely finish January without a new defender, but they are loaning out one of their own, Marco Pellegrino. He’s headed to Salernitana. The two teams had to contact FIFA for the deal to go through due to a clerical mistake, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.
The center-back was believed to have already played for two teams this season, the Rossoneri and Platense, in the TMS, the Transfer Matching System. However, that was because the end of the Argentinian campaign was erroneously dated June 30th and not a month later. Serie A noticed it and worked with FIGC, FIFA, and the local federation to fix it. It already happened with Enzo Fernandez in the past.
Pellegrino commented to Sky before boarding the flight from Milan.
“I’m ready for this new experience. I hope everything goes well. There were other teams too. Why Salernitana? To do well and play.”
The center-back featured just once before suffering a heel fracture. He recently returned to the match-day squad list after playing a pair of matches with the youth team. The Granata just parted ways with Matteo Lovato, who joined Torino, and Flavius Daniliuc, who transferred to RB Salzburg, in the same role.
Pellegrino isn’t the only youngster bound to leave Milan on deadline day. Chaka Traoré is in advanced talks to go to Palermo on loan with a €10M option to buy. He has made four appearances, scoring twice, while they were depleted offensively.
