Mourinho and Roma Open Discussions for New Contract

After raising some doubts in previous weeks, José Mourinho is poised to keep coaching Roma next season, and potentially longer. He and the team have quietly started conferring about a possible extension. His contract is up in 2024, Sportitalia reports.

The talks commenced only recently, but the Giallorossi are de facto planning the future along with the Special One. He originally inked a three-year deal when took over from Paulo Fonseca. He had voiced his concerns with the club’s lack of resources and Financial Fair Play constraints. Though, they are getting busy on the transfer market regardless.

According to TuttoSport, Mourinho could tie himself down to Roma for two more seasons. The new expiry date of his date would be 2026. In the meantime, the management is looking to fulfill his request for reinforcements.

The Giallorossi have already bagged Houssem Aouar and are in pole position for Evan Ndicka. They have touched base for Youri Tielemans again, who will depart Leicester City. He’s waiting for offers from the Premier League, though. Director Tiago Pinto met Sassuolo for Davide Frattesi Wednesday. The race is in its early stages. Juventus and Inter are going after the midfielder too.

Our Take on Roma and Mourinho

The gaffer has found his right habitat, and the club would have a hard time finding somebody as impactful and influential. Despite some back and forth, which was probably only strategic on his part, La Lupa hasn’t been seriously linked to other managers. Plus, the potential landing spots for the Special One quickly evaporated. A renewal would be natural given the circumstances.
