Napoli Pursuing Wolverhampton Star on Short-Term Deal

Napoli appear intent on signing a winger in the summer, and they are keenly monitoring Adama Traoré. The Wolverhampton attacker is currently on an expiring contract, although his club is trying to convince him to sign a new one.

As per Alfredo Pedullà, the Partenopei already targeted the Spaniard in the past, but they disagreed with his price tag at the time. He spent six months on loan to Barcelona last season, which eventually opted against activating a €30M option to buy.

The salary of Adama Traoré wouldn’t be excessive for Napoli, as he earns €2.5M per year, well within their standards. The Wanderers recently hired his compatriot Julen Lopetegui, who’d like the forward to stay put and is pressing for an extension.

The 26-year-old was also on Tottenham’s radar in the past, which might rekindle their interest. The Azzurri pursued him in 2019, but Wolverhampton slapped him with an £18M valuation, and they preferred signing Hirving Lozano instead. He has logged 9 goals and 16 assists in 172 Premier League matches. The Partenopei are also tracking Real Betis’ Luiz Henrique for the same role.

Our Take on Napoli Eyeing Adama Traoré

They seem to be preparing for a changing of the guard on the right flank, and Lozano figures to be more likely to leave than Matteo Politano because he has higher wages and price tag and would attract more suitors. The younger Henrique would be a more typical signing for the Partenopei, but it remains to be seen how much his team wants to sell him. The opportunity to add the Spanish winger on a free is juicy, especially considering they obviously like him since they went after him in the past.
