Napoli View Salernitana Midfielder as Cost-Effective Signing

It’s been a quiet transfer window for Napoli thus far despite winning their first Scudetto in 33 years, but things could change quickly. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the reigning Serie A holders have placed a watchful eye on Salernitana midfielder Lassana Coulibaly.

Except for Kim Min-jae’s heartbreaking departure for Bayern Munich, Napoli have kept a low profile this summer. New manager Rudi Garcia has failed to secure a signing since replacing title-winning boss Luciano Spalletti. However, the Italians’ dead-eyed patience could only be the calm before the storm.

Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to address Piotr Zielinski’s uncertain future at Napoli before making any market moves. Courted by Lazio and several Saudi Pro League clubs, the Pole has been one of the hottest topics in Serie A this summer. Down to the final year of his contract, he seems closer to leaving than staying.

Zielinski’s potential exit could unlock the Partenopei’s summer dealings. Garcia has already expressed his desire to sign a new midfielder to replace Tanguy Ndombele. The 26-year-old left Napoli after a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, leaving a gaping void in Garcia’s engine room.

Coulibaly could be Ndombele’s replacement at the Diego Maradona Stadium. After an impressive two years at Salernitana, the Malian star is ready to take his career to the next step, with Napoli waiting in the wings.

His arrival won’t require a substantial financial sacrifice. Contracted to the Salerno side until 2026, Coulibaly has an estimated market value of around €5-7m. So he might be a cost-effective signing for Napoli.
