Walter Sabatini Likens Napoli’s Spalletti to Caravaggio

Ex-Salernitana and Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has likened Napoli tactician Luciano Spalletti to Italian painter Caravaggio for leading the Partenopei to their current Serie A standing. Napoli earned an important victory over Juventus in the last round, all but sealing the famed Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport (viaTuttoNapoli), Sabatini praised Spalletti for creating a masterpiece in the south of Italy.

“I hope he’s proud of the masterpiece he’s created. Luciano is the Caravaggio of football. Sunday’s goal in Turin reaffirmed it – a maneuver by outflanking, ball that reaches Zielinski, who then goes to the right after starting from the left on Elmas; finally the brushstroke from Raspadori’s volley. This is joy for the eyes.”

Sabatini further praised Napoli, and Spalletti in particular, for orchestrating the important win against Juventus at the death.

“I wrote to him after that game, which sealed a fantastic and surreal season in terms of the ways in which it has developed and the contents that have enriched it. Success against an opponent of such enormous prestige smacks of branding and also of definitive celebration. It is the added value”.

Spalletti and Napoli have the chance to clinch the title against Salernitana in the next round, provided Lazio drop points against Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
