Nicolas Dominguez Opens Up on Busted Milan Move

Former Bologna midfielder Nicolas Dominguez has admitted he waited for Milan in the summer before joining Nottingham Forest on the deadline day. The 25-year-old penned a five-year contract at the City Ground, joining the Tricky Trees in a swap deal involving Remo Freuler.

Dominguez has quickly adapted to the Premier League requirements. He has established himself as a regular starter from the get-go. The Argentine scored a crucial equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Brentford in only his second appearance for Steve Cooper’s side.

But things could’ve panned out differently for Dominguez in the summer. Milan had him on their radar during their long-running search for a new holding midfielder. Rossoneri eventually went for Yunus Musah, forcing the ex-Bologna vice-captain to reconsider his options.

As the transfer window approached the deadline, Forest pulled off a swift deal to take Dominguez away from Serie A, offering Freuler in return. Bologna didn’t need much persuasion, aware of the player’s desire to take his career to the next step. However, there’s still some regret over a failed Milan move.

Yes, there had been talk about it [Milan interest], and I read a little bit about it. I also waited for the Rossoneri, but nothing… I am happy with the choice to come here,” Dominguez told Gianluca Di Marzio. “Life here is a bit different than in Italy, but both my family and I are very happy here. If I have to be honest, I don’t miss Italy so much.
