Roma CEO Dishes on Europa League Draw and Wijnaldum

Roma will face Ludogorets, Betis Sevilla and HJK in the group stage of Europa League. Instead, Lazio have been paired up with Feyenoord, Midtjylland and Sturm Graz.

Giallorossi director Tiago Pinto commented on the draw and more to Sky Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“When you reach this level in Europe, it’s always difficult and filled with surprises. For instance, Betis are coming off a fantastic season, and we already faced them in a hard-fought friendly. It will be a tough and competitive draw. We want to win matches and advance.”

Roma will look to replicate in Europa League what they accomplished in the third continental cup last season.

“When you are successful, your self-confidence grows individually and collectively. I think we have the responsibility to do well. We have been working to strengthen the team this summer, and the window isn’t over yet. I still have some work to do.”

José Mourinho promoted Nicola Zalewski and Eduardo Bove from the Primavera last season.

“We count on youngsters, as we already proved. Cristian Volpato and Giacomo Faticanti have been practicing regularly with the first team. They have quality and a high ceiling, on top of the duty of always acting in a professional manner.”

Pinto confirmed that Georginio Wijnaldum will not undergo surgery and will return in 2023.

“Those 24 hours after his injury were rough. We all did our part to sign him. He had fit in well in just two weeks, and it looked like he had been here for a while. It was a tough blow, but he responded with a smile. He was the first one to tackle it with the right attitude. He will be our top January reinforcement.”
