Roma Eye Leicester City Pair to Replenish Frontline

Roma are looking at recently relegated Leicester City to find a striker to replace the injured Tammy Abraham in the first few months of next season and are after Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho in particular, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Giallorossi initially zeroed in on Gianluca Scamacca for such a position. However, West Ham rejected their opening offer to onboard him on loan. They don’t have a lot to spend and will seek somebody on a temporary spell at first. The Irons prefer an outright sale.

Iheanacho and Daka landed on the Roma radar in the past already. They might not stay in the Championship, and transferring to a side that plays in the cups could be enticing. The contract of the former expires in 2024.

La Lupa is keener on the 24-year-old. The Foxes bested them in the race to purchase him from RB Salzburg in 2021 with a €30M offer. He netted 15 goals in his two Premier League campaigns. Instead, his teammate scored 8 times and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions in 2022/2023.

Our Take on Roma, Iheanacho, and Daka

The Giallorossi are in a pickle as they need to find a prolific scorer while operating on a shoestring and necessarily having to search for bargains, which is never ideal. They are one of the few Serie A sides that managed to pull off some acquisitions from England, so they might indeed successfully scavenge there. However, the meager budget and their preferred formula lead to believe it’ll take weeks to identify the right player.
