Roma Join Juventus in Transfer Race for Lyon Prodigy

Lyon’s admission regarding the availability of wonderkid Houssem Aouar has put clubs on high alert across Europe, including Juventus and Roma. The midfielder has long been the target of the Bianconeri, but they are now joined by a host of foreign and Italian sides seeking to secure the soon-to-be free agent whose contract expires in the summer of 2023.

TuttoJuve reports the presence of two La Liga clubs on the hunt – Sevilla and Real Sociedad – as both teams look to bolster their midfield prowess and earn a better finish in Spain next season. Real Betis are touted to be interested as well, according to RMC Sport.

However, José Mourinho’s Roma, which are tinkering with their midfield, appear to be keener than Juventus on trying to bring Aouar to Serie A. The Giallorossi have formulated an initial offer of €20M for the French regista, but do not look eager to offer more. The French giants are definitely not impressed with the transfer proposal and hope to receive more, given his transfermarkt value of €25M. From the Premier League, it is Arsenal and Liverpool who are linked to the Olympique Lyonnais prodigy.

Aouar is yet to sign an extension deal with his boyhood club, with both parties on polar terms regarding wage demands – only strengthening Lyon’s will of cashing in on him rather than seeing their prized prospect leave on a free transfer. The main factor for the move would be European football, as he hopes to feature for France under Didier Deschamps in the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the end of the year.
