Gareth Bale’s career at Real Madrid is drawing to a close as several clubs from La Liga and abroad consider the prospect of landing him on a free transfer. Despite Getafe’s recent talks with the winger’s representatives, Roma have now emerged as a potential landing spot for the Wales captain.
According to Calciomercato, Bale’s entourages have offered their client to the Giallorossi. Talks between the parties are underway, with Jose Mourinho examining the possibility of signing the 32-year-old in what would be a blockbuster deal.
One thing is certain – Bale will have to renounce a large portion of his whopping €16million a year wages he received at Madrid over the past decade. Despite tumbling down the pecking order over the past few years, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man has been one of the highest earners at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Roma do not have the financial capacity to meet Bale’s salary demands. Yet, the Italians could lure the coveted forward to the Stadio Olimpico by offering him regular play-time in the World Cup year.
After helping Wales advance to the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years, Bale is keen to maintain his competitive shape. A potential move over the Atlantic remains a plausible possibility.
But though several MLS franchises are keeping close tabs on the left-footed star, Bale’s switch to North America remains on stand-by for the time being.
Our take on Bale’s potential move to Roma
Nicolo Zaniolo’s future in Rome is still up in the air. Milan and Juventus continue to monitor the Italian’s situation in the nation’s capital with great attention.
And while Roma remain hopeful of keeping hold of their rising star, there’s a feeling Zaniolo could hit the road in the coming months. His potential departure would leave a substantial gap in Mourinho’s final third.
As long as Mourinho can motivate Bale to stay focused, the Welshman’s potential arrival at Roma could prove a massive coup for the Giallorossi.
