Borja Mayoral, who is currently plying his trade at Getafe after arriving from Roma on a sub-loan, is adamant of landing a future at the team that he emerged through. The Real Madrid youth product believes he can still make it back to the Los Blancos squad ahead of the 2022/23 season, when he ends his two-year loan spell with the Giallorossi.
The lack of playing time and exposure at Roma forced the club to allow him a level playing field with a loan move. The Romans possess a €20m buy-out clause included in his loan deal in order to make his move permanent, but Jose Mourinho’s side haven’t yet displayed any motivation to sign him permanently.
Speaking to Spanish outlet AS (via TUTTOmercatoweb) ahead of Getafe’s clash against the La Liga leaders at the Santiago Bernabeu, Mayoral revealed his ‘dream’ of starring regularly for his boyhood club.
“That train hasn’t escaped me yet, far from it. I have one year left on my contract with Real Madrid. I have already established myself in the elite and fulfilled many dreams, but I still have many to fulfill and I have a lot of time to prove things. Playing for Madrid is one of those dreams and it can happen at some point. They take me into account,” he said.
Mayoral has been loaned to various clubs, including Wolfsburg and Levante – something he is hopeful will earmark him for a better career ahead.
“Sometimes I get p*ssed off with so much loan, but it means that they don’t let me get away easily. There is a lot of pressure”
The 25-year-old registered 18 goals in 56 appearances for Roma, before jumping ship back to his homeland.
