Roma Wouldn’t Mind Keeping Huijsen Past This Season

Dean Huijsen has had a regular role since joining Roma despite the competition, but his side faces an uphill climb to retain him from Juventus. The youngster has impressed more offensively than in the back, scoring twice already, including a screamer versus Frosinone.

According to Calciomercato, the prodigy became the second defender born after 2005 to have at least two goals in the top five leagues this season after Lille’s Leny Yoro.

Huijsen has already logged eight appearances after the January switch, which is a big variable of the deal between Juventus and Roma. The Giallorossi would pay €250k less, €400k and not €650k, if he starred ten times. He’s well on his way.

La Lupa wouldn’t mind keeping the starlet past this season. They might bid farewell to both Chris Smalling and Diego Llorente. They might ask for another loan, but the Bianconeri probably wouldn’t accept it. They could be open to cashing in, but only if a team tendered €30M.

Our Take on Roma, Juventus, and Huijsen

The rest of the campaign will tell whether they used him so much early on just for economic reasons, but the discount is peanuts in the grand scheme of things, or if they really trust him. Smalling will soon be ready for more minutes and Evan N’Dicka is back from AFCON. The Giallorossi splurged a little for Tommaso Baldanz, but they’d need a larger investment in this case. The Old Lady is aging in the back and better hold on to him.
