Luciano Spalletti was reasonably content with the result of the first leg against Milan and looked ahead in his post-game remarks to Prime Video and Sky (via La Repubblica).
“We had a good showing even in ten men. The lads had an excellent attitude. We weren’t affected by the lingering effects of the romp. We tried to stay high and recover second balls and managed the bout well. Kudos to Mike Maignan.”
Spalletti didn’t dwell on who was out but anticipated his star returning soon.
“We had to be strong anyway; otherwise, we wouldn’t have been sharp. Eljif Elmas played his role well and obstructed Milan’s build-up. Osimhen will be available for sure Tuesday. That’s what we planned. Excluding him today and likely Saturday will allow the doctors to complete their work.”
Frank Anguissa and Kim Min-Jae will be suspended next week.
“Any absence is impactful at this point of the season, but we have alternatives. The red card was unfair in my opinion. He got a lot of the ball and little of the chest. My regret is that I should have subbed him off, but it took me two minutes to decide whom to replace him with. I didn’t like how the referee handled sanctions overall.”
Spalletti is optimistic about going through and urged the faithful to contribute.
“The squad has character and good qualities and just needs to be groomed a little. We have an important future. We collected 20 more points than Milan and Inter. Plus, we played in an absurd atmosphere in the previous clash. If the stadium is silent and the supporters fight with each again Tuesday, I’ll leave the bench and go home.”
