Vidal Operated, but Inter Already Thinking of Another Midfielder

Antonio Conte got his wish last summer, as he was finally reunited with one of his former Juventus pupils. Arturo Vidal joined Inter after spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but his contribution to the Nerazzurri cause has so far been limited.

On Friday morning, the club’s official website announced that the Chilean had a successful operation to his left knee. The statement goes as follows.

“This morning, Arturo Vidal underwent arthroscopic surgery for selective medial meniscectomy on his left knee, at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano.

“The surgery was a complete success. The player will leave the hospital in the early afternoon and the rehabilitation phase will begin in the next few days.”

Therefore, it remains to be seen how long will it take for the 33-year-old to complete his return to a football pitch.

Nonetheless, it must be noted that Conte has found a winning combination in the middle of the park, composed of Marcelo Brozovic as the dictator of play, Nicoló Barella as the all-round action man, and Christian Eriksen who finally found his confidence one again.

That being said, the Beneamata are still looking to strengthen their midfield department, and have reportedly renewed their interest in a former transfer target.

According to Calciomercato, Inter are hoping to buy Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho in the upcoming summer transfer market.

The Italians were already interested in the services of the Portuguese international since the days of Luciano Spaletti at the club.

The 28-year-old has been plying his trade in La Liga since completing a move from Sporting Lisbon in 2018.

The source also believes that Inter have evaluated the player at around 20 million euros, and would be willing to offer him a contract worth 2.5 millions per season.

So could Carvalho end up replacing Vidal at Inter next season?
