Donnarumma Throws Veiled Shade on Milan During Interview

The messy divorce between Gianluigi Donnarumma and Milan continues. The goalkeeper had some belittling remarks about his old side and their stature in particular. The Italian international also weighed in on the alternation with Keylor Navas. He tested positive for COVID-19 today.

Donnarumma talked to France TV show Tout le Sport: “Compared to my time at Milan, there is more pressure here. I am part of a team that aims to win everything now. Navas is a friend of mine, and this situation is normal. Too many stories are being made up from the outside. The competition is natural in a big club. We are both very serene, and we are working well. In the end, it is up to the coach to decide.” Both have featured in 11 matches across all competitions so far.

Donnarumma received the award as the best goalkeeper of 2021 during the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where he spoke fondly of Milan: “It must be just a start for me. My ambition always remains the same, which is to keep winning.”

Milan director Paolo Maldini recently addressed the departure of Donnarumma while speaking to Corriere della Sera: “He is a nice person and particularly filled with big emotions. I think that passion should be your main drive. However, eyeing a sort of social redemption and giving the money to your family can be a form of motivation too. I respect everybody. Some people manage to wait, while others rush things, and I do not pass judgment on them.”
