Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has come forward to explain why the Nerazzurri have failed to gather all three points on several occasions against lower-placed teams. Inter might have earnt local bragging rights with the derby win aginst Milan, but have often slipped against sides such as Empoli, Monza and Udinese in the league.

Inter have lost six times in Serie A this campaign – most among the top-six sides – reflecting on which birthday boy Acerbi commented.
“We should have had 5-6 more points. And then, with the direct return matches still to be played, the gap would have been less tough,” said Acerbi. (via Calciomercato)
Acerbi then went on to explain why Inter have lost points so frequently this season against weaker teams.
“Let’s take Empoli as an example: you subconsciously think you can win it in some way, but sometimes it’s not enough. And maybe something unexpected happens. In “dry” races there is a different motivation, but we should always have that hunger. If we have the right wickedness, we win: I have no doubts about that. Sometimes, however, we lacked a bit of bite.”
Inter sit 13 points adrift Scudetto hopefuls Napoli ahead of their visit to Sampdoria on Monday.
Despite losing six times in the league, Inter are one of the three sides to have drawn the fewest matches in the ‘big five’ European leagues in 2022/23 alongside Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and Bochum – drawing only one of their last 30 Serie A matches.
