De Laurentiis Voices Great Optimism on Osimhen Affair

Despite an apparent impasse in the negotiation, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is confident Victor Osimhen will wind up agreeing to a new contract and stay put. He talked with Chiringuito after the loss to Real Madrid in the second round of the Champions League’s group stage (via Il Mattino).

“I liked the game a lot. Carlo Ancelotti is a friend. I didn’t touch base with him, as I didn’t want to influence him before the match. He must be celebrating, so it’s only right to leave him alone. We’ll meet in Madrid. He’s a true gentleman. The fans want to win, and they criticize if they don’t. But you can’t knock him as a man, player, or great. He’s one of the greats. I won’t text him, maybe I’ll call him tomorrow.”

“I’m very satisfied with my players. They were competitive and very good. Real Madrid have an immense history and maybe the best standing in the world. I’m very confident after this result.”

De Laurentiis was quizzed about Osimhen.

“He’s always strong and a one-man team, and that’s unquestionable. There’s no issue with his extension. Everybody is always happy at Napoli. The problems start to emerge when they leave because they can no longer find their polar star.”

There has been no reported meeting between De Laurentiis and Roberto Calenda, the agent of Osimhen, after the end of the summer window.
