Sassuolo boss Alessio Dionisi hopes Domenico Berardi will be healthy in the second half of the season and will contribute to lifting the team. He complimented his star while appearing on the Il Terzo Uomo podcast (via TuttoSport).
“We missed him a lot, he’s as important to us as Kylian Mbappé is to France. It’s a low-score sport, so players are decisive. I don’t want to draw a comparison but, under certain aspects, he’s been more key to us in ten years at the club than the PSG star has been to Les Bleus, since they have other champions.”
“His presence raises everybody’s levels. Without him, the rest of the squad has to take on more responsibilities. He moves the needle in practice too. There are different tiers of coaches, teams, and players. We have a very good one. It’s a shame he missed so much time. Things will be more fluid from now on.”
On top of speaking highly of Berardi, Dionisi touched on Hamed Traoré.
“We hope he’ll reprise the path he was on last May. The backend of the previous campaign matched his quality. Mental consistency is his main issue. It’s not easy to have it in a league that’s so competitive and has so much coverage. I wish he’ll be in peak form in 2023.”
The gaffer concluded with some remarks about Andrea Pinamonti.
“He has learn to handle the attention around him better, since he was a very important acquisition, he succeeded Gianluca Scamacca, and he’s promising youngster. He might have struggled because of the pressure. Even though we aren’t a top team, the move gave him more visibility. He’s very respectful and has important characteristics, but he’s different from who preceded him.”
