Fiorentina Ace Fails Bournemouth Medicals

Gaetano Castrovilli’s proposed transfer from Fiorentina to Bournemouth collapsed at the 11th hour. As per Fabrizio Romano, the Italian midfielder could pass his medicals at the Vitality Stadium, causing the Cherries to call the deal off.

The stage seemed set for Castrovilli to halt his six-year association with FiorentinaLa Viola had accepted Bournemouth’s €14 million bid for the 26-year-old, only to see him fail his medicals. Though all the parties hoped for a different outcome, the ex-Bari man won’t move to England.

Castrovilli’s contract at Fiorentina runs out next summer. Therefore, this was their best chance to cash in on their injury-prone star. Vincenzo Italiano didn’t think twice before agreeing to Bournemouth’s terms. The Italian manager doesn’t see the midfielder as part of his plans anymore.

Last season was the final straw to break the camel’s back. Castrovilli experienced an injury-puzzled campaign, making just 15 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina. His pronseness to injuries deterred Italiano from including him in the upcoming projects.

Bournemouth shared an opposite view. Andoni Iraola’s men were prepared to give Castrovilli the benefit of the doubt. After acquiring Ionut Radu and Hamed Traore from Inter and Sassuolo, respectively, the Cherries hoped to pull off another piece of business in Serie A.

But it wasn’t meant to be, as the Fiorentina playmaker couldn’t pass medical checks. Now back to Artemio Franchi, Castrovilli faces an increasingly uncertain future.
