Inter Exec Ausilio Coy on Lukaku and Thuram Pursuit

Inter director Piero Ausilio answered a few transfer market-related questions after attending a charity event to support Ukraine (via Sky).

“We have to be sustainable and abide by the Financial Fair Play. We have always had acquisitions and departures, maybe more of the latter in recent years. However, we also pulled off quality Bosman moves. We can’t do like Premier League sides and spend €100/200M per window.”

“In order to stay with us, Romelu Lukaku has to continue as he has done in the last few months. He started working very well once he shook off his injury. He’s very determined and focused on doing his job and improving his performances. His condition is constantly growing. The players have to focus on what happens on the pitch. We started talking about an extension with three or four of them. I’m convinced we’ll have positive news soon.”

Ausilio was asked about Marcus Thuram, whose departure on a free has been confirmed by Borussia Monchengladbach, by Sportitalia.

“It’s a matter that concerns them, and I don’t want to talk about potential deals right now.”

The exec shielded Simone Inzaghi from the criticism.

“It’s excessive, and I judge it with a smile. I struggle to understand its reasons. We didn’t perform as we expected in the first month, but then we started marching. We have been consistent in the last few months and already won a trophy this season, unlike other teams. Kudos to Napoli, which are doing very important things. They are dominating and earning it on the pitch. They lost just one game, to us. We are second in Serie A and still alive in Coppa Italia and Champions League.”
