Inter-Linked Bayern Defender Possibly on His Way Out

Inter inquired about Benjamin Pavard in January when Milan Skriniar seemed on the verge of leaving. They could make another attempt in the summer as the Slovak will indeed depart. The French’s contract with Bayern Munich is up in 2024. The negotiation hasn’t progressed much, Sky Sport Deutschland relays (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The defender is in a good run of form and will meet the club soon. However, the parties are reportedly distant on the numbers. The Bavarians won’t come to terms with him at all costs. The Nerazzurri lodged an offer in the past window, but it was rebuffed.

Director Hasan Salihamidzic addressed the recent buzz to AbendZeitung (via Sportitalia)

“We will discuss a new contract with him. We’ll see what he thinks. I’m happy with him, he’s doing very well and providing excellent performances.”

Pavard recently attended a game in San Siro, but not to pay Inter a visit, as he was in the stands for Milan-Lecce alongside Lucas Hernandez, SportMediaset informs. They went down to the locker room to greet his teammate’s brother Theo after the final whistle.

The 27-year-old, who previously stated in an interview that he’d be intrigued to play in Serie A, has appeared in 39 matches this season, scoring 7 goals.

Our Take on Inter and Pavard

He’d be a high-end option to replace Skriniar. He figures to be a great fit in a three-man line given his ability to play both as a center-back and as a fullback. On the other hand, considering his wages and the fee, he might turn out to be too expensive for the Nerazzurri. Although, the two clubs might be able to concoct mutually-satisfying trade deals, perhaps involving Denzel Dumfries or Marcelo Brozovic.
