Inter to Reopen Talks for Monza Star

Inter won’t renounce their long-standing pursuit of Monza wing-back Carlos Augusto despite facing several roadblocks. As per Gianluca Di Marzio, Simone Inzaghi’s side will soon resume talks for the 24-year-old.

Augusto has emerged as one of the most exciting profiles on Beppe Marotta’s shortlist this summer. However, Monza’s reluctance to negotiate his sale has forced Inter to play a waiting game. Inzaghi sees the Brazilian as an upgrade on his current left-back options. But there’s a catch.

Federico Dimarco and Robin Gosens are the two left wing-backs at Inzaghi’s disposal. And while the former has a bright future at Giuseppe Meazza, the latter has failed to live up to expectations. As such, Inter are keen to find him a new home in the build-up to the 2023/24 Serie A season.

Bundesliga side Union Berlin could be Gosens’ next landing spot. Despite failing to strike a deal with Inter at the first time of asking, the Germans are ready to give it another go. With all parties eager to find common ground, the 29-year-old may soon return to his homeland.

Gosens’ departure would open up space for Augusto. But he won’t come cheap, with Monza demanding up to €15 million to give their go-ahead. Given his performances last season, his arrival at such a price would be a bargain, yet Inter are strapped for cash.

It’s understandable Monza won’t let their prized asset leave for peanuts. So it’s up to Inter to raise funds. Gosens’ move to Berlin should help.
