Inzaghi Plays Mind Games: “City the Strongest in the World”

Simone Inzaghi has referred to Manchester City as the strongest team in the world. Inter will take on the Premier League champions in the most important game of the season – the UEFA Champions League final, and Inzaghi believes his Nerazzurri will need to show incredible concentration to emerge victors.

Speaking to the press (via Calciomercato) on the eve of the big day, Inzaghi gave his thoughts on arguably the biggest match of his managerial career so far.

“We know what kind of game we will have to play tomorrow. As of today, City are the strongest team in the world but we know the path we have taken, and we are proud to have come this far. We will do everything to play with incredible concentration, to avoid mistakes and make the maximum out of the opportunity because we face a very strong team.”

Inzaghi was then asked if he has any special plans for Erling Haaland.

“We know the strength of City and that of Halaand. He will be a special watch like all their players. We have prepared something but all of Inter will have to limit both Halaand and City.”

With Fiorentina and Roma losing their respective European finals, Inter are the only team left with the work to do to recover Italian bragging rights.

“It’s natural to feel like the duty to avenge the other two team, it would be important motivation. I’m sorry for Roma and Fiorentina who played an excellent game. This year we have reached a huge milestone, bringing three teams to the final.”

Inzaghi has rarely failed to win finals in his managerial career, speaking about which he remained humble.

“I am lucky enough to coach players who know how to play these games. We have world champions and European champions. We need to try to be clear-headed in managing the details that make the difference in such matches.”

This will be a shot first shot at a European trophy as a coach for Inzaghi, having already won the UEFA Super Cup with Lazio as a player in 1999.
