Juventus to Attempt to Expand Their Serbian Colony

Juventus signed Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic in the last two windows and have placed another Serbian player, Strahinja Pavlovic, on their shortlist for the center-back role. After playing in a few clubs when he was younger, he has found a home at RB Salzburg. However, he might stay for long given his rapid growth.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, his price tag tripled in a few months, but his wages are very low. The Austrian outfit paid €7M to sign him from Monaco over the summer. He could have transferred to Italy from Partizan in 2020, but a move to Lazio collapsed at the 11th hour. The Principality team loaned him to Cercles Bruges and Basel before cutting bait.

Juventus plan to add a lefty center-back, and Pavlovic joins long-standing options Gabriel, Igor, Evan N’Dicka, and Jakub Kiwior. They’ll follow him attentively during the upcoming World Cup. He already has 21 caps with his national team.

Serbian coach Dragan Stojkovic recently attended the Derby della Mole and commented on the Bianconeri to Libero (via SportMediaset).

“They are different from what I knew. They are weaker in the back because the midfield doesn’t protect the defense properly and lacks intensity and the ability to play vertically. That hampers Dusan Vlahovic since they don’t exploit his best trait, which is attacking the open space with his great burst.”

The gaffer was quizzed about the ties between Juventus and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who, like Pavlovic, could be a target despite his lofty price tag.

“He would undoubtedly be a great fit. He’s young, but he already has a lot of experience in Serie A, which is a very difficult league.”
