Marotta Has Worrying Remarks on Skriniar Negotiation

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta weighed in on the team’s plans for January and Milan Skriniar’s extension before the key win versus Napoli to DAZN.

“You have to be creative in the transfer market, but this kind of assessments belong mainly to the summer window. You try to fix the squad in the winter one. It’s challenging to find opportunities that are on the same level of the players you already have, who have given us great satisfaction, and continues to do so. Surely, we’ll inquire, but we respect the current roster.”

Marotta dished on the lengthy negotiation with the Slovak.

“For him and for other players, these things are typical in football. We aren’t the only ones dealing with these situations. We are in talks with his representatives. He deserves to be part of our current and future squad. We are very keen on extending his contract, and we hope the matter gets resolved soon. I’m always optimistic in life, but also realistic. We can do a lot, but we can’t do the impossible.”

According to Sky, Inter expect an answer from Skriniar by the end of January. They aren’t considering selling him in the ongoing window. If they fail to come to terms, he’ll eventually depart on a free at the end of the season.

Our Take on Inter and Skriniar

The longer it takes, the fewer chances the Nerazzurri will have to strike a deal, but they did manage to re-up with Marcelo Brozovic very late in the recent past. If they aren’t pondering cashing in, there’s no actual deadline.
