Napoli Linked to Real Betis Veteran on Expiring Deal

Napoli have set sights on Guido Rodriguez, who will be out of contract in a couple of months. The Partenopei haven’t struck a complete agreement on personal terms with him yet but are currently leading the race to capture him on a Bosman move, Tyc SportsCesar Luis Merlo reports.

The 30-year-old is expected to leave Real Betis after four years at the club. He has accumulated 168 appearances, 9 goals, and 4 assists during such a stretch. He had joined from America for €4M back in 2020. The midfielder also starred for River Plate and Club Tijuana during the course of his career. He has 29 caps with Argentina. He played 57 minutes during the World Cup.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Napoli are in pole position to land Guido Rodriguez but have to battle with a few sides, including Juventus and Barcelona. His team will make another attempt to retain him. Director Ramon Alarcon spoke to Radio Sevilla about it (via Marca).

“We’ll meet with him again at the end of the season.”

However, the chances of him staying put are slim. He makes roughly €1M annually.

Our Take on Napoli and Guido Rodriguez

The Azzurri will have to rebuild their midfield given the departures of Piotr Zielinski and Diego Demme and the fact that they probably won’t keep Hamed Traoré. Nothing wrong with nabbing a proven contributor on a free. However, he might merely be able to serve as Stanislav Lobotka’s deputy in their scheme, and their staple rarely ever gets a day off.
