Napoli want Teun Koopmeiners to reinforce their midfield and will soon table a robust bid to Atalanta. The Dutchman has been tipped to extend his contract with La Dea and thus stay put, but he hasn’t put pen to paper yet.
Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Partenopei are ready to tender €30M to lure the maestro. They see him as an ideal fit for their midfield considering he can play in multiple roles. They are wary they won’t have Frank Anguissa for a month or so during the Winter due to AFCON. Moreover, he just suffered a calf problem.
Napoli and Juventus have been pursuing Koopmeiners for some time, but Atalanta never provided an opening to his departure. They already sold Rasmus Hojlund and Jeremie Boga this summer. Therefore, the bid would have to be particularly sizeable for them even to entertain it.
The Azzurri have decided to zero in on the ex-Alkmaar star also because he’s an impeccable set-piece taker. They had some trouble converting PKs last season and haven’t scored a lot from outside the box.
Our Take on Napoli and Koopmeiners
Even though they could use a more physical player to complement their current contributors, there’s no doubt he’d help a lot since he’s a jack of all trades. However, the sum is unlikely to sway Atalanta since they already filled their coffers.
