Sassuolo CEO and Agent Meloni Deny Laurienté Exit Talks

Giovanni Carnevali has denied speaking to interested suitors regarding a potential transfer for Armand Laurienté. The Frenchman, who has impressed since arriving from Lorient in 2022, is an undisputed starter for the Neroverdi, and his agent as well relayed Laurienté’s intention to stay put at the Mapei Stadium.

Speaking to DAZN (via Calciomercato) before the kick-off against Inter, Carnevali dished on the future of Laurienté.

“We didn’t receive any offers and, if they had arrived, we wouldn’t have listened to them. We wanted to keep him at all costs, having already made other important transfers”.

His agent Roberto Meloni was of the same opinion, stressing on the fact that money doesn’t particularly impress his client (via SassuoloNews).

“We rejected any type of approach with Saudi Arabia. We didn’t even sit at the table, we haven’t spoken to anyone. Right now, he has different ambitions, he’s not just looking at money, he wants to do something important in Europe. He wants to grow, he has important goals. For us today, Saudi Arabia is a question mark. They talked about a lot of money, but that’s the only thing it is about for us.”

However, a move at the end of the season wasn’t ruled out, when quizzed if he could go away next summer.

“It will depend on his performances this year. We already had a lot of interest in him, but in terms of growth we didn’t feel like leaving Sassuolo for the sake of change. It doesn’t make sense for us.”

Laurienté was linked to a handful of top clubs, including Cristiano Giuntoli when he was at Napoli.

“Bayer Leverkusen wanted him to replace Moussa Diaby. Then there was an interest from Tottenham, and it’s no mystery that Giuntoli would have liked him had he stayed in Naples. In the Premier League, there was an attempt from West Ham, but he wants to reach an important level, preferring a second season in Sassuolo to confirm himself. He is developing well with Alessio Dionisi, and he is in an excellent position. Of course, he could leave next year with high-level offers.”
