Inter and Perisic Set to Rekindle Talks to Prolong Contract

There have not been recent meetings between Inter and Ivan Perisic to discuss the extension, but things might be moving in such direction. The parties need to negotiate some more to strike an agreement, but there appears to be a mutual desire to stick together, Calciomercato.com informs.

The winger has built an excellent relationship with Simone Inzaghi. The gaffer often publicly campaigned for him to stay. He has remained the starter even though the Nerazzurri added Robin Gosens in January. His strong performances have allowed the coaching staff to bring the newcomer along slowly following a major thigh injury.

Perisic and Inter could eventually reach an agreement on a two-year contract with €4M wages, the publication informs. The veteran was tempted by a Bundesliga return or a move to the Premier League. However, the best offer on the table is the one coming from his own team. He currently makes €5M.

His entourage and the club last met in mid-February, with mixed results. A new summit could take place before the end of the season, but they could easily wait it out. Inter have been linked to a few players to potentially replace Perisic, but they were just early inquiries. In particular, they touched base for Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez, River Plate’s Fabrizio Angileri, and Genoa’s Andrea Cambiaso. The management is doing their due diligence to be ready in case of a separation, but they are open to keeping the 33-year-old at the right price. He just made his 200th Serie A appearance.
