Lazio Veteran Forward Mulling Reunion with Barcelona

Pedro has been playing at a high level since he completed a rare crosstown switch from Roma to Lazio. He has entered the final months of his contract, and the extension talks haven’t heated up just yet. The club would be happy to keep him, but Barcelona are a threat to try orchestrating a reunion, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito had announced his renewal in December, but it hasn’t been finalized afterward. The club would likely ask the aging forward to reduce his €2.5M wages. He has had a more limited role this season than in his maiden one, partly due to a few injuries.

Despite the interest from Barcelona, Lazio remain very confident in their chances of retaining Pedro. However, the agreement is unlikely to be struck before the end of the campaign. The 35-year-old has logged 5 goals and 5 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions so far.

On the other hand, he has started just nine times in Serie A, generally when one between Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson, and Mattia Zaccagni was unavailable. Instead, he was a full-time starter in 2021/2022, when he hit the net 10 times and recorded 5 helpers in 41 games.

Our Take on Pedro, Lazio, and Barcelona

Anybody could use a savvy veteran like him, as he still has it on the pitch, on top of being a big locker-room presence. Still, it’d be an odd move for the Blaugrana despite the past ties. His departure would open a hole the Biancocelesti would have to spend to fill, so they’ll likely do what they can to keep him around. A move to an exotic league for a final rich payday can’t be ruled out.
