Milan Earmark Juventus Veteran on Expiring Contract

Juventus and Daniele Rugani have been negotiating for a few months, and while the renewal appeared to have momentum in a few instances, it hasn’t been finalized yet, which exposes them to the interest from other clubs, for instance Milan, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays (via OneFootball).

The defender makes roughly €3M. The Old Lady is trying to lower his yearly wages considering his precious but secondary role within their squad.

If Juventus weren’t quick enough, Milan could swoop in and bag Rugani on a free transfer. He could technically already sign a pre-contract with his new team having entered the final six months of his deal.

The Rossoneri are expected to let go of Simon Kjaer and Mattia Caldara, who has never played this season. They have four young-ish options in their squad but have been linked to a few candidates to further bolster their rearguard.

Our Take on Juventus, Milan, and Rugani

Trying to lower a player’s salary is always easier said than done. While he’s been useful, his permanence is directly correlated to the future of other defenders. He’d be a natural casualty if they decided to lean more on Tiago Djaló and Dean Huijsen. They should wait because their coach and his scheme will also play a role.

The Rossoneri could technically stand pat if they wished to, but, after what happened this season and due to Pierre Kalulu’s recurring injuries, they’ll probably keep having five center-backs.
