Skriniar Tardily Snubs Inter Contract Extension Offer

Inter defender Milan Skriniar has decided not to renew his contract, albeit the doors of negotiation still kept open by the club. The Nerazzurri put forth a contract deal several weeks ago, and the Slovak stopper has given his answer.

As relayed by Sky Sport journalist Matteo Barzaghi (via Gianluca Di Marzio), Skriniar has said ‘no’ to Inter’s offer of €6.5M net per season including bonuses. He had initially demanded €8M in wages, which Inter have revealed time and again that they cannot afford.

The Nerazzurri believe they have done all they can on their part to keep the former Sampdoria man, who signed for the club in 2017. Keeping that in mind, Inter have accelerated their efforts to sign a replacement, with Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini on the top of their wishlist.

However, his answer is not yet final, as Inter have not yet rescinded the tabled offer. But it looks increasingly likely that the two parties will part ways soon enough, if not before the end of the current transfer window. Similar to the Skriniar situation, Inter also risk losing Villarreal target Stefan De Vrij.

Skriniar has been an important cog in the Inter machine since making his club debut six years ago. He has 241 appearances and four trophies to his name.
