Juventus Reversed Transfer Market Trend in the Summer

Juventus onboarded a few players during the summer transfer market window, but, thanks to a heap of departures, they significantly reduced the cost of their squad. It’s a U-turn compared to previous years, as the financial value of the roster had constantly gone up.

As per Calcio e Finanza, the savings will amount to €33M. The estimate factors in wages, amortizations, and loan fees. The Old Lady has 35 players under contract, including those currently on other teams. The tally amounts to €278M, while it was €311M last September.

From the economic and technical standpoint, the most meaningful departures were Matthijs De Ligt and Paulo Dybala. They were worth €46M in total on the balance sheets. Merih Demiral, Rolando Mandragora, Giacomo Vrioni, and Matteo Brunori left in permanent fashion after temporary stints. Juventus didn’t trim the squad just via transfer market moves, but also through contracts either expiring, as it was the case with Giorgio Chiellini and Federico Bernardeschi, or getting terminated early, like Aaron Ramsey’s one.

Arthur and Denis Zakaria are still part of the equation as they left on loan, and so is Dejan Kulusevski. Tottenham will formally buy out for €40M next summer. Bremer was the most expensive acquisition, and he carries a €13M annual valuation. The disbursements for Landro Paredes and Arkadiusz Milik have been pushed to 2023. Juventus will also have to redeem Moise Kean by the next summer transfer market window.

Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria joined on free transfers, so only their salaries count against the books. The former is the highest-paid player at €8M per year, while the latter earns €7M like Dusan Vlahovic and Adrien Rabiot. The payroll saw a €10M contraction.
