Milan to Have Fairly Sizeable Transfer Market Budget

RedBird Capital founder Gerry Cardinale took over Milan exactly a year ago. He could celebrate the anniversary with a rare appearance on the San Siro stands Sunday against Hellas Verona, but his travel plans aren’t set in stone just yet. While the Rossoneri have already clinched a top-four berth, overtaking Inter is worth around €5M in prize money, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

While they didn’t compete for the Scudetto this year, the team reached the Champions League semifinals for the first time in 17 years. Thanks to that and prudent management of their resources, the balance sheets will be slightly in the black in the current session. It’s a remarkable turnaround considering the club had lost nearly €200M three years ago and €66,5M last season. They will cash in €125M thanks to the top European competition alone.

The healthy state of their finances will allow Milan to spend this summer. The budget will be fluid and hinge also on possible sales around the fringes. They will hold onto their top players. It will be around €60M. It could grow if the payroll decreases thanks to the departure of multiple outcasts. The sum is roughly the same as the previous summer.

Cardinale won’t intervene in the transfer market directly but will let the directors do their job. Instead, he’s tending to the project for the new stadium along with Milan president Paolo Scaroni. There have been no discernible advancements in recent weeks. San Siro is unlikely to be torn down due to some restrictions and a possible referendum. The club is working on alternative sites on its own. Though, the main fallback, the La Maura area, has fallen through too.
